01/27/10 Betty Balasi Public Speaking Contest Winners 2009
View Story Each year the department hosts three public speaking contests to encourage and support the art of public speaking. The Betty Balasi Public Speaking Contest is named for a past department secretary who severed for 22 years.  Betty Balasi was a pillar of the department with a positive outlook and zest for life, compassion, generosity of spirit, and a genuine interest in and selfless commitment to the success and happiness of students and faculty.

11/12/09 Two faculty members receive Redden grants
View Story Joe Heumann and Elizabeth Gill both received 2009 John S. and Margaret Redden Fund for the Improvement of Undergraduate Instruction. 

Grants, typically a maximum of $1,500, may be used for anything that improves undergraduate instruction: software, equipment, guest speakers, conference registration, teaching materials, etc

Joe Heumann's grant was for the purchase of films to enhance the film collection for the University. 

Beth Gill's grant was to support health campaigns conducted as part of course work for the health communication minor. 


   
11/12/09 Faculty member receives co-authored summer research grant
View Story Congratulations to Joe Heumann and Robin Murray for receiving a 2009 Summer Council on Faculty Research Grant.  The grant was entitled How to Say "Enviro-Toons in Context: The Ecology of the Animated Feature," continued. A completed draft and revision for University of Georgia Press

The duo was one of She was one of only 20 awards in the University.
   
11/12/09 Two faculty members receive CFR grant
View Story Congratulations to Sherry Holladay and Tim Coombs for receiving a 2009-2010 Council on Faculty Research Grant.  The grant was entitled How to Say "We're Sorry": Examining the Effectiveness of Apologies in Protecting Corporate Reputations.

The duo was one of She was one of only 12 awards in the University and the only one in Arts and Humanities.  Way to go!!!!
   
11/12/09 Gronnvoll's manuscript accepted by Routledge
View Story

Marita Gronnvoll manuscript entitled Media Representations of Gender and Torture Post-9/11 has been accepted by Routledge for publication.  The text, based upon MArita's dissertation will be publishaed as part of the Studies in Rhetoric and Communication series. The manuscript is targeted for delivery by December 1st, and  it will be available some time early 2010.
