01/20/09 EIU Speech Panthers Strong First Semester
View Story The Eastern Illinois Forensics Team travels around the country competing in speaking events ranging from poetry to persuasion, and started off the year right with a strong first semester. Just a few of the team’s highlights follow:
   
10/15/08 Murray wins Fashing-Soto for the second time!
View Story Scott Murray won the third annual Fashing Soto Speech Scholarship contest. The contest, hosted during Career Day on October 15th, focused on the role that current social events have on the future of careers. Scott’s winning speech was entitled “Sex Education in the Age of Abstinence.” This is the second year in a row that Scott won the scholarship.
   
08/17/08 Finalists of Smith-Merritt Public Speaking Contest
View Story Charleston, April 16, 2008:  Endowed by and named in honor Dr. Calvin Smith and Dr. Floyd Merritt who, together, offered more than 50 years of service to EIU in the Department of Speech Communication, this contest recognizes the important contributions of students in our basic public speaking course.  Finalists in this contest were nominated by their public speaking classes and advanced from preliminary rounds on Monday, April 23rd.
   
08/17/08 Four faculty earn achievement and contribution Awards
View Story Olaf Hoerschelmann (research), Sherry Holladay (teaching, research and service), Melanie Mills (teaching, research and service), and Suzanne Enck-Wanzer (service) all received 2007 achievement and contribution awards from the University. The awards are given in recognition of the faculty members contribution to the University
   
08/17/08 Mehdi Semati wins service award
View Story Mehdi Semati received the 2007 Service Award from the Mass Communication Division of the National Communication Association. This award was given in recognition of professor Semati's efforts in advancing the business of the association, serving as the program planner and chair of the division for the past several years
   
08/17/08 Tim Coombs and Sherry Holladay win national award
View Story Tim Coombs and Sherry Holladay won the 2007 PRIDE award given by the Public Relations Division of the National Communication Association for their textbook entitled It's Not Just Public Relations: Public Relations in Society.
   
03/09/08 Forensics Team Places Well at Last Chance
View Story The Forensics Team competed at Illinois State University's last chance tournament this weekend. 
   
02/04/08 Forensics team starts the semester strong
View Story The speech team traveled to two tournaments this spring, qualifying new events for nationals
   
01/21/08 Forensics Team Places 7th
View Story The EIU Forensics Team traveled to Butler University in Indianapolis on Saturday placing 7th.
   
12/03/07 Forensics Team Wins Ohio State
View Story The Forensics team finished 1st place this past weekend at the Holiday Frolic Invitational hosted by The Ohio State University.
