Graduate application process

If you are interested in enrolling in the graduate program in the Department of Communication Studies, then you need to take the next step and submit an application. A complete application to the University includes the following:

Sent to the graduate school

Send the following to the graduate coordinator

  • Three letters of recommendation attesting to academic ability
  • A academic writing sample to demonstrate your preparation for graduate level writing
  • A goals statement (explaining why you want an M.A. in communication and why from EIU)
  • Personal Information Sheet or resume

If you are interested in a graduate assistantship, then you need to also to submit a graduate assistantship application.

The department accepts applications to the graduate program throughout the year. Graduate assistantship applications are normally accepted through the middle of February with a decision for the next academic year within a month. Contact the graduate coordinator for more information on the current deadlines.
